For many people, moving to a new home can be a daunting prospect – especially because it requires plenty of preparation.
However, once buyers at our Melton Fields development in Melton Mowbray have moved into their fabulous new homes, they can rest assured that help is at hand in the form of our exclusive handyman service.
By booking an appointment, new residents at the growing development of two, three and four-bedroom homes can arrange for Aidan Wright, our Customer Service Operative, to pay them a visit and assist in any way that he can to get them settled in, whether there are pictures and curtains to be hung, furniture to be moved, or boxes to be unpacked.
But there are still lots of other things that you can do to make your move go as smoothly as possible.
Taking a few simple steps and planning ahead, purchasers can save themselves unnecessary stress and anxiety and ensure that their big move goes as smoothly as possible.
To help new house owners at our Melton Fields development in Melton Mowbray get ready, we asked our Customer Services team, who has been a part of hundreds of home moves and witnessed the most common pitfalls first hand, to outline their top tips for moving.
1. Give yourself plenty of time to pack
Packing up all your items can take up lots of time. This is why, as soon as you have the moving date confirmed, it’s best to get started straight away.
The best thing to do is to focus on packing those items that you don’t use on a day-to-day basis, as you won’t miss them as much in the run-up to the move.
Spare bedrooms, garages and attics are all good places to start with, and by getting a head-start on packing, you’ll find things a lot less stressful further down the line.”
2. Write a to-do list
In many cases, having a to-do list can be a real lifesaver.
By noting down everything that you need to have ready in advance of your moving date, you can easily tick off what’s been done and what’s still left to do, keeping an eye on all your belongings to make sure that nothing gets lost.
It’s perhaps something that people might not consider, given that it can be time-consuming in itself, but getting organised in this way really can make a huge difference.
3. Label up your boxes
During a move, things can easily get misplaced in transit, which is why it’s important to know where everything you need is.
Simply using a marker pen to label up your boxes can put a stop to this confusion.
Write down what each box contains on both the top and side so that you have a clear understanding of where all your personal items are and where they will need to go once you’re in your new house.
4. Transfer your broadband
A big issue nowadays is when people forget to arrange for their broadband to be transferred.
The internet plays a big role in modern family life, and being without a connection can be a real struggle for some, having an impact on work as well as leisure time.
This is why it’s so important to remember to call up your provider and make sure that it’s all set up in time for the move, so that you can start surfing the web right away.
5. Have your first meal in mind
The process of moving can often take a full day, especially if you have multiple journeys to make.
At the end of it all, chances are that you’ll have worked up an appetite, but might not have any food in the house just yet.
Stocking up on food and drinks that you can have during and after moving is a good idea, and something that people can often forget about.
However, you might not feel like cooking once all the hard work of moving is done, which is when a takeaway meal can present the perfect solution.
Lisa Morris, New Homes Manager for Westleigh, says: “We understand the anxiety that people might experience when moving home.
“This is why we want our customers to know that we are here to help make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible for them, and will be right by their side even after they’ve moved in.
“The satisfaction of our customers is our number one priority and we take pride in the service that we provide to them.”
