Westleigh Homes has given residents at its landmark Wolsey Island development in Leicester the chance to get to know their neighbours better at a special waterfront event.
We invited both current and future residents at the collection of stunning two, three and four-bedroom homes to its ‘Meet Your Neighbour’ event, which took place outside the Sales and Marketing Suite and magnificent Mitchell showhome.
Guests were encouraged to bring along their favourite foodie creations, as well as picnic chairs and blankets, to share with their new friends as they chatted the afternoon away and soaked up the sun by the east bank of the River Soar.
A selection of soft drinks and delicious cakes and nibbles were also provided by Westleigh.
Among those at the event were Jemma and Steve Lockwood (both 36) and their seven-year-old daughter Freya, who have purchased a two-bedroom Mitchell homestyle at Wolsey Island and have been living there since June.
Jemma, who works in a local education team for the NHS, and Steve, a Service Adviser for Toyota, had previously lived for 12 years in an apartment in Leicester city centre.
“We saw Wolsey Island advertised and wanted to move here for the extra space and to have a garden, due in large part to Freya growing up quickly.
“We first visited the development in the New Year and reserved the Mitchell straight away.”
To buy at Wolsey Island, Jemma and Steve took advantage of the Next Move scheme, through which Westleigh sold their apartment so that they could purchase their dream home at the development.
“We’ve had a great experience with Westleigh,” the couple continues, “and everything has been really straightforward.
Since moving in, the family has been enjoying their new life at Wolsey Island.
“Freya loves living here as there are other children for her to make friends with,” they add, “and we’re so close to the National Space Centre, which is one of her favourite places in Leicester.
“We also enjoy having more separation between the rooms as it’s nicer than the open-plan layout we had with the apartment and it’s much more suited to our family.
“Steve is able to walk to work and we’ve not had to move Freya to a different school. We’re now also in the catchment area for Rushey Mead Academy, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ and is regarded as one of the best schools in the country.
“The development itself is much quieter than where we were before, – which is something that Freya noticed quickly - and it’s great to be a part of such a lovely community!”
Lisa Morris, New Homes Manager at Westleigh, said: “We are thrilled by the response from residents at Wolsey Island to our special ‘Meet Your Neighbour’ event.
“We always aim to create a friendly, peaceful and close-knit community at all of our new homes developments and social occasions such as this can make a big difference in helping to build strong relationships among neighbours.
“We hope that existing and prospective residents of Wolsey Island enjoyed the event and have come away from it having made lots of new friends.”
“As there are only a few homes remaining for sale at the development on the current phase, we would urge anyone who would like to join this up-and-coming neighbourhood to get in touch without delay or face missing out!”
