Westleigh has begun work on its first affordable housing development in Lichfield.
39 homes will be built on brownfield land adjacent to Greenhough Road, which will offer a mix of one and two bedroom flats on the site.
Westleigh is working in partnership with Waterloo Housing Group and Lichfield District Council to provide the homes, which will be available for affordable rent through Waterloo Housing Group.
The housing development will be a stone’s throw from the Lichfield’s renowned Beacon Park and only a short walk from the city centre, with Lichfield City railway station under a mile away providing direct public transport links to Birmingham. A large supermarket is a five minute walk away.
Gino Siani, Westleigh’s Head of New Business for the West Midlands, said: “The redevelopment of this site is an important step towards meeting the shortfall of affordable housing in Lichfield.
“We’re pleased to be underway with construction and we are looking forward to working with Waterloo Housing Group and Lichfield District Council on this important project.”
Anthony Riley, Waterloo Housing Group Director of Development and Operations, said “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Westleigh and Lichfield District Council to deliver these new homes in Lichfield. It is wonderful to see affordable new homes be built to meet local housing needs.”
Cllr David Salter, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see building work on this development get underway. Creating more affordable local housing is so important and this development will offer people good quality homes that are close to the city centre and Beacon Park. We look forward to seeing the finished properties and to increasing the district’s stock of affordable housing.”
