Pupils safety signs taking pride of place on construction site

Safety signs created by two youngsters have been chosen to go on display

Safety signs created by two youngsters from Ecton Brook Primary School have been chosen to go on display at the gates of a neighbouring construction site.
Developer Westleigh Homes set up a competition for pupils at the school, which is adjacent to their Ecton Brook Place development in Northampton.

The two winning designs by Harry, 10, and Daisy, 6, will appear at the site entrance and in other areas around the development. The Primary School and the two pupils themselves have also been presented with copies of their signs, and Harry and Daisy were each awarded £20 gift vouchers as a prize.

Staff from Westleigh held an assembly at the school earlier this year, talking to the pupils about site safety and explaining the ongoing works. Pupils were then set a challenge of creating a sign to explain the dangers of playing on building sites, with two age categories set up to choose the winners.

Steve Dudman, Westleigh’s Health & Safety Director who took the assembly, said: “Congratulations to Daisy and Harry – we were really impressed with their brilliant and colourful designs. We had so many great entries and picking two out was a difficult decision but these designs are worthy winners.

“As participants in the Considerate Constructors Scheme, we take our responsibilities towards local communities very seriously and we always look to reach out to schools when we are building homes nearby. We feel it’s important to make sure the pupils understand what is happening, why it’s happening and how we’re making sure they stay safe.

“It was great to see the pupils really engaging with the message we were putting across and tuning their creative sides to help us explain site safety to others who are living near Ecton Brook Place.

“We’d like to thank all of the staff at Ecton Brook Primary School for being so welcoming and giving us the opportunity to speak to the pupils.”

Debbie Archer, Joint Head Teacher at Ecton Brook Primary School, said: “The school would like to thank Westleigh for running the competition. It is always valuable for our school to be involved with community projects and the children were thrilled that their posters were chosen.”

Ecton Brook Place offers a range of modern, spacious, smartly-fitted two and three-bedroom homes, designed with couples and young families in mind. The first six homes released for sale in February this year were reserved within a matter of days, and the development is proving to be extremely popular with buyers.

An on-site marketing suite is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with a team of friendly advisers on hand to discuss the reservation process with potential buyers and offer tours of the newly launched Elder style two bedroom show home.
